My experience in the arts has been far reaching. Since beginning high school I’ve been in six theatre productions, the lead in each one, and this year I directed my own production. Twice I have been featured in the newspaper for my artistic achievements, once as a front-page feature. I am currently the marketing chair for the Berkeley Rep Teen Council as well as a weekly illustrator for The Berkeley Times. I run my own blog, marceloandbabies.com featuring my photography, art in progress, reflection on my process and inspirational works by other artists. On March 22, under the guidance of my friend and mentor, I had a solo art exhibition at Hatch Gallery with the intention of raising funds for my college education.  I hope you remember me as a very talented kid who’s overcome many social and economic situations in order to pursue his dreams. Someone who hasn’t let the pressures of society and friends deter him from committing to and completing his goals.  Not only do I wish to fulfill my personal goals, I wish to inspire others to pursue their dreams and make those who have helped me throughout my journey proud.

“Marcelo has great follow through and a great desire to continue his education. As his teacher, I have been impressed with his passion for learning and his sense of community.”
