Not only has raising money for charity shaped a part of who I am today, but the money is also going to a greater cause. The money that I and other contestants fundraised will go towards a program to provide eyeglasses to those who cannot afford them. To be able to contribute to a greater cause is a wonderful feeling. It makes me feel like I have helped better the world, even if it was only by a little bit. I enjoy helping people and intend to pursue a career as a Doctor where I can continue to do it.

Jia's Updates

“Many of my students come from difficult backgrounds. Like Jia, they usually have few role models in the home or surrounding community, few family members who graduated from high school or college. But unlike her peers, Jia did not let these setbacks get in her way. She became her own leader, her own role model. Everyday Jia shares her dedication to culture, community, and diversity with others. She is a constant inspiration.” Teacher, Berkeley High School
